About Our Partner Charities

The Irish Heart Foundation and Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke are the charities fighting heart disease and stroke on our island. They rely on public and corporate donations for over 90 per cent of their funding. About 14,000 people die from cardiovascular disease on our island every year – in fact more people die from it than from cancer, road deaths and suicide combined. We need your help to sustain our services and decrease premature deaths from Ireland’s biggest killer.

Our charities work to bring hope, relief and a better future to families through pioneering medical research, campaigning for improved patient care and providing vital patient support and information, in hospitals, schools and workplaces. We support, educate and train people to save lives.

Where will your money go?

  • €50 / £50 - Provide life saving CPR training for 2 hours
  • €100 / £100 - To provide our charities funds to run Patient Helpline for 1 day. Last year over 2,500 people called the IHF helpline for advice from a qualified nurse.
  • €500 / £500 - A day's research into new treatments for heart attack. Nearly 4 people every day suffer a heart attack in Ireland
  • €1,000 / £1,000 - Facilitate one patient support group meeting. By way of example, the IHF has six patient support groups including stroke and cardiomyopathy with over 3000 members
  • €10,000 / £10,000 - Pay for 6 months of our schools “Action for Life” programme helping to tackle Ireland's growing childhood obesity epidemic – with 26% of 9 year olds overweight or obese
  • €50,000 / £50,000 - Pay for the implementation of the Irish Heart Foundation Happy Heart workplace programme for 1 year – covering over 600 companies and over 100,000 employees
  • €100,000 / £100,000 - ACT FAST for Stroke TV & Radio campaign for three months. This campaign has saved over 100 lives since July 2010

Irish Heart Foundation

In May 2010 we launched a lifesaving F.A.S.T TV ad campaign to raise awareness of stroke symptoms so more people get to hospital quickly for treatment and less lives are lost. The F.A.S.T. campaign is proving a real success increasing admissions to hospitals and increasing awareness of stroke throughout our island. People from as young as 12 have recognised stroke symptoms in their loved ones.

In August 2011, we expanded our focus to include heart attack symptoms - Don’t die of embarrassment call 999 at the first sign of a heart attack.

In 2012 we can save even more lives with the help of the Chartered Accountants Ireland.

Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke

Northern Ireland Chest Heart &Stroke aims to improve the quality of life of the people of Northern Ireland by preventing and alleviating chest, heart and stroke illnesses.

Our vision is a Northern Ireland where chest, heart and stroke illnesses have been substantially reduced and those affected receive high quality services to meet their needs.

To achieve this, our work is focused in 4 areas: Research, Advocacy and Lobbying, Health Promotion and Care Services. We commit £350,000 to funding research each year to prevent these illnesses; we support the Northern Ireland Cardiac Services Network and its 23 support groups, as well providing support for those suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) through our Respiratory Support Network. We also have a network of 32 Stroke Schemes across Northern Ireland, including 8 young stroke schemes.
