Irish Heart Foundation
In May 2010 we launched a lifesaving F.A.S.T TV ad campaign to raise awareness of stroke symptoms so more people get to hospital quickly for treatment and less lives are lost. The F.A.S.T. campaign is proving a real success increasing admissions to hospitals and increasing awareness of stroke throughout our island. People from as young as 12 have recognised stroke symptoms in their loved ones.
In August 2011, we expanded our focus to include heart attack symptoms - Don’t die of embarrassment call 999 at the first sign of a heart attack.
In 2012 we can save even more lives with the help of the Chartered Accountants Ireland.
Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke
Northern Ireland Chest Heart &Stroke aims to improve the quality of life of the people of Northern Ireland by preventing and alleviating chest, heart and stroke illnesses.
Our vision is a Northern Ireland where chest, heart and stroke illnesses have been substantially reduced and those affected receive high quality services to meet their needs.
To achieve this, our work is focused in 4 areas: Research, Advocacy and Lobbying, Health Promotion and Care Services. We commit £350,000 to funding research each year to prevent these illnesses; we support the Northern Ireland Cardiac Services Network and its 23 support groups, as well providing support for those suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) through our Respiratory Support Network. We also have a network of 32 Stroke Schemes across Northern Ireland, including 8 young stroke schemes.
