Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the Cheartered Accountants Healthy Heart Day, and when is it?
Chartered Accountants Healthy Heart Day is a charity day of action for all Chartered Accountants on Friday 20th April 2012, with events planned across the island. This is the first year that Chartered Accountants Ireland will organise a Charity Day. The event is also open to students of Chartered Accountants Ireland, students and members of Accounting Technicians Ireland, indeed everyone is welcome to get involved.
For our first year, we will be raising funds for the Irish Heart Foundation and Northern Ireland Chest, Heart & Stroke. Cardiovascular disease is the biggest killer of both men and women on our island. The good news is that just 30 minutes of physical activity 5 times a week can reduce your risk of heart attack and stroke. Get out those runners and bikes today.
Q. How do I get involved?
- Register online at www.charteredaccountants.ie/charityday from 10th January 2012. If you are an existing member with login details to the Institute website, you will need only insert your username and password. If you do not have these details, are a student or non-member, you will need to go through a short online registration process.
- You will be asked to make an initial financial pledge to get involved. This money will go to either Irish Heart Foundation or NICHS (depending on your location).
- Once registered, consider whether you want to join an organised event in Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Sligo, or organise your own.

Q: Why do I need to make a financial pledge in order to participate? Can I not register and raise funds without donating myself?
While the 20th April will be about mobilising chartered accountants in every part of the country to get active, the primary purpose of the Institute's 'Cheartered Accountants Healthy Heart Day' is to raise much-needed funds for our worthy charities, Irish Heart Foundation and Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke. Quite apart from the cost of producing and posting the sponsorship packs, every District Society is committed to raising as much as possible to save lives across the island. We are extremely sensitive to the difficult economic environment and feel we have struck a careful balance in settling on €20 / £20 as the proposed pledge amount (€10 / £10 for students / unwaged).
Q: How do I raise funds?
After you register to get involved in the Charity Day, you will receive a sponsorship pack in the post. This will contain a t-shirt to wear on 20th April, a traditional sponsorship card to record sponsors' details, and a bank lodgment slip for the charity in your region. When you have raised all your donations, please send the funds to either Irish Heart Foundation / Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke, using the lodgment slip.
Alternatively, you may wish to ask supporters to make donations online. In the Republic, you can set up your own page on the My Charity website. your supporters can then donate using credit card details, if you circulate your link. Please visit the Institute's page on My Charity here:
