McAvoy and Associates, Cork.  Date posted 21 March 2016

RECENTLY QUALIFIED or EXPECT to QUALIFY SOON?

A Career in Tax Consultancy

Who are we?

McAvoy & Associates is a dynamic and progressive consultancy that provides tax and financial advice to a growing base of private and corporate clients.  In order to further develop our service capability we wish to recruit either a recently qualified accountant or one that expects to qualify soon. The successful candidate will be either a chartered accountant or one who expects to complete the chartered exams shortly and who would like to become a tax specialist. He or she will have the advantage of participating in the firm’s in-house training programme with the aim of developing into a consultant who will give expert advice across the entire range of Irish taxes.

What will I be doing?

Because we are a tax consulting practice that gives advice on all the Irish taxes, you can expect to gain a much wider breadth of experience than would be the case in a generalist firm of accountants or in a firm where you are merely allocated a portfolio of either corporate or income tax clients. With us you can expect that your activities would include:

  • Initially assisting our experienced consultants with their various tax consulting assignments. As your career with us progresses, we would expect you to be able to take on assignments of your own. Such assignments typically involve giving expert advice on tax matters as diverse as income tax, VAT, capital gains tax, capital acquisitions tax, corporation tax and stamp duty
  • Handling a portfolio of individual and corporate clients. This will involve inter-acting with the clients concerned.
  • Helping with the analysis, research and documentation of tax issues that will have a material impact on clients’ tax returns.
  • Participating in our year-round tax training programmes
  • Working on the various tax publications that the firm issues.
  • Ultimately becoming interested in particular areas of Irish taxation and giving specialist advice on questions that impinge on these areas.

What we offer you

We offer firm-supported study and take a keen interest in the professional development of our staff. Indeed we are proud to say that many of those who train with us become prize winners in the Institute of Taxation exams.

Professional development however does not stop with exams. We encourage our consultants to develop their tax capabilities throughout their careers. Through this process many have contributed to Irish and international tax publications and have developed national reputations as authorities on various aspects of Irish taxation.

The position carries with it a competitive remuneration package and a first class career opportunity.

If the position appeals to you please apply in strict confidence enclosing a comprehensive CV to:
