21,000 Chartered Accountants to get active for Charity - 20th April 2012

Mon, Jan 9, 2012

Chartered Accountants Ireland, the biggest accountancy body on the island of Ireland, today announces details of its inaugural Charity Day, to be held on Friday 20th April 2012.

21,000 chartered accountants, as well as chartered accountancy students, colleagues, family and friends across Ireland are all encouraged to take part in ‘Cheartered Accountants Healthy Heart Day’ and go the extra mile for one great cause – beating cardiovascular disease.

Chartered Accountants across the island will be raising funds for two partner charities, the Irish Heart Foundation and Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke.   As an all-island institute, charity activity events will be held in six locations – Dublin, Cork, Belfast, Limerick, Galway and Sligo, with many more local events to be announced in the coming months.

Chartered Accountants Ireland president John Hannaway FCA commented:

“On behalf of Ireland’s Chartered Accountants, I’m delighted to row in behind our two partner charities. I see this initiative as a fantastic opportunity to get fit and active, while raising much-needed funds for charity.

“Most of us know some family member or friend who has suffered from a condition associated with heart disease and that’s why we’re asking our members to go the extra mile on April 20th. I believe that our choice of charity reflects the critical importance of tackling this debilitating and fatal condition.”

Michael O’Shea, Chief Executive, Irish Heart Foundation said: “At the Irish Heart Foundation we rely on charitable donations for 93 per cent of our income which makes support from organisations like Chartered Accountants Ireland so important to us. We welcome the partnership and I am delighted to see that the Charity Day will not only raise vital funds to fight Ireland’s number one killer but it will also motivate 21,000 members to run, walk or cycle for their hearts. Every donation from the day will go to support our programmes in health promotion, resuscitation, patient support, advocacy and research to drive prevention and better treatments so more people live longer.”

The Charity Day is open to colleagues, families and friends, and members of the public are all encouraged to join in the initiative.  For more information on the day or to register, please visit www.charteredaccountants.ie/charityday.
