Although Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) have been in operation for more than a decade, much of the evidence as to their impact is still contradictory and inconclusive, with little or no research being conducted in an Irish context. A new book form ICAI Publishing seeks redress this lack of research into an important subject.
PPPs have large numbers of both supporters and opponents, and they are likely to dominate policy for the foreseeable future in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Even in the highly unlikely event of a universal return to traditional procurement, contracts worth millions have already been signed, and over the next 25-30 years these must be paid for and managed. Consequently, it is essential that lessons are learnt from previous projects, factors for success in the PPP process are identified and good practice is shared.
Public Private Partnership in Ireland is written by Ciaran Connolly of Queen's University, Belfast, and Tony Wall of the University of Ulster, Jordanstown.
