Clarity for students entering training contract

Wed, Dec 9, 2009

Under employment legislation, all students must be given a written statement of the terms and conditions of their employment at, or shortly following, the commencement of their employment. Please note that the training contract does not suffice for this purpose.

The following exam attempts are permissible for students in training contracts:

  • CAP1 - 4 attempts (summer and autumn x2)
  • CAP2 - 6 attempts (summer and autumn x3)
  • FAE - 3 attempts (currently 1 sitting per year)

If a training firm wishes to limit the amount of exam attempts they will permit to a number lower than Chartered Accountants Ireland's permitted attempts, it is incumbent on the firm to clarify this in the terms and conditions of employment.
