HMRC's Departmental Report 2009 was recently presented to parliament by the Financial Secretary and is now available on HMRC's website. This Report outlines that HMRC collected £435.7 billion in tax revenue in 2008-09, down £21.3billion from 2007-08's figure of £457 billion. Income Tax accounted for 34% of overall taxes collected while as expected, CGT and Stamp taxes amounted to a modest 1.9% and 1.7% respectively of the total tax take for 2008-09.
The report also outlines the composition of complaints received in respect of the various sections of HMRC with the Tax Credit Office topping the list on 41,107 complaints in 2008/09- accounting for 47% of total complaints received.
