EU Commission consults on possible adoption of international standards for statutory audit of EU companies

The European Commission has launched a public consultation this week to determine whether International Standards on Auditing (ISAs) should be adopted in the EU. According to an independent study also published this week, the benefits of adoption would outweigh the costs.The consultation paper, which explores various aspects of ISA adoption, points out that "the adoption of ISAs in the EU would result in quantitative and qualitative benefits for companies, investors, and regulators." Comments are requested by September 15, 2009.
