The skills required to be successful in the modern business environment constantly evolve. For those employed in finance, the need to be compliant with ever changing regulatory and tax measures is crucial.

Chartered Accountants Ireland places great priority on providing relevant learning for our members and their employers, across a range of areas. As Ireland's largest provider of workshops, seminars and conferences, targeted at finance and accountancy professionals, it provides over 400 courses and offers 10,000 training places each year, across a broad range of events covering technical/functional, business, ethics and IT skills areas.

Chartered Accountants Ireland is also one of the leading specialist providers of 'In-Company Training', targeted at those employed in accountancy and finance roles.

How does in-company training work?

  • Chartered Accountants Ireland has a panel of expert trainers and speakers, capable of delivering customised training to meet the needs of any organisation.
  • On receipt of an in-company training enquiry, we make contact with the enquirer to gain a better understanding of their exact training requirements and topics they would like to see covered.
  • Once we gain an understanding of our clients needs, we then work with them to design an in-house training solution, guaranteed to deliver against the agreed objectives.

What are the benefits?

  • The delivery of excellent training is one thing but following up is just as important, and that is why we evaluate our training to make sure our trainers perform to their best and deliver a service that not only ticks the boxes for CPD credits, but also imparts skill sets and knowledge that benefit the workplace.
  • Because in-company training is charged by event rather than per person, it very cost effective. It is also very convenient, as all of our programmes are delivered either on-site or at a suitable local venue.

Who uses in-company training?

To date Chartered Accountants Ireland has provided in-company training for finance staff in many companies including; Accenture, Symantec, Pepsi Cola, Pfizer Ireland Pharmaceuticals as well as private accountancy practices. The team delivers training on everything from effective presentation skills to technical accounting skills.

Sara McAllister, head of compliance at Wyeth Biotech has engaged Chartered Accountants Ireland to conduct in-company training on a quarterly basis, for the past three years:

"I was asked to co-ordinate the delivery of finance training because Wyeth Biotech hadn't a system in place for its finance staff to obtain CPD credits. The staff needed to keep up to date and wanted to have professional training, while the company for its part was incurring unnecessary costs by sending staff on ad hoc external courses."

Wyeth Biotech has 40 people working in finance roles on-site, and McAllister's challenge was to source a professional training solution that would stand to each of them.

"The people working in finance had received their initial professional qualifications from a number of different bodies. For example we have CIMA, ACCA and Tax Institute accredited staff, so the task for me was to find a training provider that would satisfy all of their professional CPD needs. We didn't want to have to pay a fee to each of their original training bodies, but what we did want was professional, well- recognised training programmes."

After some research, McAllister chose Chartered Accountants Ireland and in addition Wyeth Biotech also joined the Employer Partnership scheme, which accredited the in-house development offered by Wyeth Biotech giving people the comfort that it will allow them to meet their CPD requirements.

Reflecting on the last three years, McAllister said; "We are very pleased with the service and level of training that Chartered Accountants Ireland provides. The approach we take, which works well for us, is to organise training on a quarterly basis and to rotate the focus of these sessions around soft and technical skills."

Another satisfied client is Symantec Ireland. Karen Keeley, Revenue Manager reported; "The training we had from Chartered Accountants Ireland this year was the IFRS: Core Standards, presented by Robert Kirk. We found the presenter knowledgeable, and he was able to refer to real life scenarios as examples, which greatly aided understanding."
