Chartered Accountants Tax News - 12th February 2010

Fri, Feb 12, 2010

As practitioners will be aware, all agents acting for taxpayers within Self Assessment must be allocated a national agent code. HMRC have issued updated guidance for agents wishing to obtain a code.

All agent code requests and are now dealt with by a centralised team based in Longbenton. To request an agent code you must provide the following information to HMRC:

  • your name
  • your business name
  • your business address and telephone number.

New agent codes will be notified by letter.

Agents wishing to notify HMRC of changes to their details must also send such information to the Longbenton office.

Agent codes should be quoted on all 64-8 agent authorisation applications, and they can also be used to register for appropriate online services.

Full details are available here.
