HMRC now accepting Faster Payments

Mon, Dec 19, 2011

From 16 December 2011 HMRC can now be paid using the Faster Payments Service. This will allow a taxpayer to make faster electronic payments, typically via internet or telephone banking, enabling them to be processed on the same or next day.

HMRC recommends taxpayers contact their bank or building society before making a payment to confirm:

  • the services available;
  • whether there are any single transaction or daily limits on the amount which can be paid; and
  • the latest cut off times for making a payment

When making a payment, HMRC advise that it is crucial to always use the correct bank account details and reference number. This will ensure that the payment is correctly received and processed, and will help avoid incurring a penalty, interest or surcharge for late payment.
