Exemptions

Students embarking on a career with Chartered Accountants Ireland must firstly clear their eligibility/exemption position. Exemption Application Forms are published each year and students can apply for exemptions anytime from 1 April to end of July. Chartered Accountants Ireland has exemption arrangements in place with the majority of third level institutions who run accounting /business programmes. These are listed below.

Graduates of programmes that are not listed below, but who believe they have relevant coverage of some or all of our CA Proficiency 1 subjects, may apply for exemptions on an individual basis. Please supply details for non-accredited degree programmes as per the Exemption Application Form

Exemptions are subject to a time limit of ten years from undergraduate qualification.

With the exception of students who are awaiting results of repeat sittings of undergraduate programmes or external students, all students must apply for exemptions prior to enrolling on a course.
