Talking Points – more diary dates

Details of forthcoming online HMRC events are outlined. Registration is quick and easy, but please do so at least five minutes before a digital meeting is due to start.

VAT and motoring expenses: this session will provide details of the general rules that apply when reclaiming VAT on the purchase of cars and hiring and leasing vehicles. It will briefly cover commercial vehicles, other motoring expenses and record keeping.  

Tuesday 3 October - 11am to midday: Register now

Income from property, minimising the risk for individuals: Dealing specifically with expenses, deductions, allowances, reliefs and repairs. The session will also look at the relief for the replacement of domestic items and the restrictions to income tax relief for finance costs.

Demystifying certificates of residence for limited companies: this meeting will explain all you need to know about applying for a certificate of residence. It will help your clients claim double taxation relief at the earliest opportunity.

Thursday 12 October - midday to 1pm: Register now

Paying HMRC – what’s Changing: The methods by which HMRC will accept payments is changing. The Post Office Transcash service will be withdrawn in December 2017. Join the meeting to find out about all the alternative electronic payment methods that are available.

Submission of SA Returns affected by Exclusions: this meeting discussed 2016-17 SA Return online submission issues and resulting exclusions. HMRC explained the process for waiving the 31st October deadline and allowing paper returns submissions. Register and view

Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) Basics: this provided a basic overview of CIS, including registration, gross payment status, deductions, record keeping and repayments. The session also covered reporting, including how to correct errors on returns and common errors to avoid. Register and view

HMRC Application Programming Interface (API) strategy and delivery update: the session covered how APIs will change the way HMRC works with and supports, tax software developer products used by agents. Register and view
