Background
In a recent report, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, warned that without ‘rapid and far-reaching changes to how land, energy, industry, transport and cities are managed, the damage to our planet could be irreversible’.

And given that many of the toughest sustainability challenges the world faces are linked to how it does business, we can no longer continue business as usual.

On a positive note; however, according to the World Economic Forum meeting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) *,could add $12 trillion and 380 million jobs to the global economy by the end of the next decade.

With so much to gain from action and to lose from inaction, there needs to be more focus on achieving the SDGs through partnerships where we as Chartered Accountants and problem-solvers can and should have an important role to play.

Note:
*The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of 17 global goals designed to be a "blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all". The SDGs, set in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and intended to be achieved by the year 2030.
