Chartered Accountants Ireland contacted Revenue on Tuesday, 9 November, following feedback from members that Revenue’s online services were unavailable, causing delays with the filing of tax returns. Following the resumption of the service, Revenue confirmed that the focus of their technical team is to fully understand what caused the issue. The Institute has sought assurances from Revenue that issues will not occur again.
On Tuesday, a Revenue representative detailed:
At this point we can definitively say that the issue was not related to the capacity of Revenue’s systems to handle extremely high volumes of transactions. The issue was instead related to network connectivity, and, alongside our external technology support services providers, we are still investigating the exact root cause and/or series of events that led to the problems.
