Budget 2021 to examine tax reliefs for remote workers

Oct 05, 2020

In Dáil debates last Tuesday, the Minister for Finance, Paschal Donohoe TD, confirmed that tax supports for remote working will be re-examined in the context of the Budget. Chartered Accountants Ireland, under the auspicious of the CCAB-I, put forward recommendations to ensure tax rules support remote working practices in a letter under the Remote Working Guidance Consultation.

The Minister noted that a balance would need to be struck in supporting those wanting to work from home and those wanting to work in the office. He noted his concerns about the prospects of offices being empty for the foreseeable future. The 2020 Programme for Government contains several commitments related to working from home.

Further details on the Ministers comments can be found in the Dáil debates.
