COVID-19 tidbits

HMRC and the UK Government continue to publish updates on COVID-19 related issues. When using a form or publication going forward or contacting HMRC, check you are using the most recent version or up to date way of contact which may have changed due to the pandemic.

  • The latest Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme Treasury Direction, made on 25 January 2021, formally extends the scheme until 30 April 2021. However, it also changes how some employees’ reference salary and usual hours calculations must be performed for March and April claim periods;
  • New OECD guidance has been published on the application of tax treaties during the pandemic. The guidance covers cross-border home working, place of effective management, and personal residence/ employment taxes; and
  • Businesses that took out government-backed Bounce Back Loans to get through Covid-19 will now have greater flexibility to repay their loans, the government announced recently.
