Institute President welcomes 27,000th member at Abu Dhabi event

Institute President Feargal McCormack’s overseas trip to engage with members abroad is well underway, this includes engagements with local members and diplomats across Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sydney, Melbourne and Singapore.

Irish Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Aidan Cronin hosted a reception for members of the Institute at his residence in Abu Dhabi on 29 October. The Institute's 27,000th member Kahna Gilligan receive her Chartered Accountancy membership certificate at this memorable event.

Feargal welcomed Ms Gilligan, who trained with PKF O'Connor, Leddy & Holmes in Dublin and is currently working with FedEx in the UAE. Mr McCormack said:

“On behalf of my fellow Chartered Accountants, I am delighted to welcome Kahna and all recently conferred members to the ranks of the profession. Awarding this certificate in the UAE demonstrates how the Irish Chartered Accountancy qualification is recognised as a global passport and wherever you go, you will find our members at the highest decision making levels in a diverse range of organisations, around the world.”

The delegation also included An Ceann Comhairle Seán Ó Fearghail T.D., Senator Paudie Coffey, Mattie Mc Grath T.D., Peter Burke T.D (Chartered Accountant) and Declan Breathnach T.D.

Ambassador Cronin was delighted to bring Irish business people together in the UAE and in his address he said:

Successful business is about building personal relationships. I am delighted to have so many Chartered Accountants here tonight at my first event as the Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates”.

Institute CEO Barry Dempsey and representatives from the Senior Management Team Becky Bristow, Director of Member Services and Brendan O’Hora, Director of Marketing and Communications are also attending a number of these engagements and significant gatherings including World Congress of Accountants Conference (WCOA) and Chartered Accountants Worldwide (CAW) board meetings taking place in Sydney this week.
