New exemption available for CTC for holders of FAE tax elective

May 29, 2018

Have you heard the news?!

If you have completed the FAE tax elective, you could be eligible to start Chartered Tax Consultant™ this June at the final stage, leaving you just one exam to do to achieve this professional tax qualification.

What is Chartered Tax Consultant™?

Chartered Tax Consultant (CTC™) is a two stage programme aimed at accountants aspiring to be tax professionals. If you are a chartered accountant who really wants to understand tax – from international issues to accounting for tax and everything in between – this is for you. We will teach you to use legislation to assess tax scenarios with confidence and provide the best advice to your team, colleagues or managers.

What will I be exempt from and what will be left for me to do?

You will be exempt from stage one of the programme: Applied Tax, which covers all the major tax heads. The final stage of the programme – Integrated Tax – looks at the interaction of tax with wider areas of business and finance. The exam will be over two days in December 2018. Prior to this there are three practical home assignments which are valuable preparation for the exam.

What will I learn?

There are 12 modules in Integrated tax; we will provide a bridging module to give you guidance on using legislation:

  • SMEs;
  • Remuneration and rewards;
  • Losses and charges;
  • Land and property;
  • Succession planning;
  • Individual and corporate investors;
  • International tax;
  • International tax and holding companies;
  • Reorganisations, liquidations and sales of business;
  • Tax accounting under IFRS;
  • Revenue interventions (this module is delivered entirely online);
  • Legal concepts (this module is delivered entirely online).

How will I learn?

To give you maximum flexibility, the programme is delivered by blended learning, meaning elements are available online via recorded lectures that you can access in your own time (not live). You will attend for one Saturday session for each of the first ten modules; here you will have a lecture with a subject matter expert before breaking into smaller groups for case studies led by a trained facilitator. These are deemed invaluable for developing your confidence, understanding and consultancy skills making you more valuable to your clients and organisation.

We equip you with the skills to design and plan tax arrangements using primary legislation. You will gain in-demand and transferable skills allowing you to arrive at tailored, accurate and reliable conclusions.

What will it cost?

Integrated tax costs €2,395.

When should I apply and how?

Integrated tax starts each summer, and 2019’s start date will be Saturday 29 June 2019. If you are interested in applying you should ensure you are eligible and contact Amy to find out more.
