Retirement announced of Heather Briers FCA

Heather Briers FCA has retired from the role of Institute Secretary, a position she held 2015-2021.
As Institute Secretary, Heather led the Bye-Laws and Regulation redrafting programme and played a prominent role in streamlining the governance process for the Institute. She also oversaw the move to online Council and AGM meetings in response to the pandemic.
Heather joined the Institute in 1995 and during her time at the Institute led the regulatory, disciplinary and technical functions as Director of Professional Standards and Director of CARB.
She represented the profession nationally and internationally and spent 12 years with the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA) and was technical adviser to the FEE board, serving also on a several sub-committees. For many years she was an Irish government adviser on audit and attended the EU Committee on Audit. Heather represented the profession with key groups such as Irish Auditing and Accounting Supervisory Authority (IAASA), the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), the Financial Reporting Council (FRC), Insolvency Services (GB and NI), Central Bank and many others.
She also made significant contributions to Chartered Accountants Support, the Chartered Accountants Educational Trust and many District Societies.
Heather has kindly agreed to remain involved in several key projects over the coming months.
Over the course of her long and dedicated service, Heather partnered with countless stakeholders, members, Council, board and committee members, and colleagues who extend their best wishes to her for the years to come.
