Chartered Accountants Ireland contacted Revenue yesterday, following feedback from members that Revenue’s online services were unavailable causing delays with the filing of tax returns. Following the resumption of the service, Revenue confirmed that the focus of their technical team is to fully understand what caused the issue.
A Revenue representative detailed:
At this point we can definitively say that the issue was not related to the capacity of Revenue’s systems to handle extremely high volumes of transactions. The issue was instead related to network connectivity and, alongside our external technology support services providers, we are still investigating the exact root cause and/or series of events that led to the problems.
Chartered Accountants Ireland have sought assurances from Revenue that it is not foreseen that the issues will occur again. We will keep members informed of the response through Tax News.
