Income from property for landlords - common themes in relation to deductions and reliefs

These sessions will concentrate on 3 areas that generate regular contact with HMRC:

  • restricting finance cost relief for individual landlords
  • replacement of domestic items relief
  • overview of what needs to be considered when deciding whether the cost of ‘repairs’ is allowable as a deduction.

This session will provide an understanding of the circumstances when private residence relief may apply and how the tax rules operate.

This webinar will cover, what the flat rate scheme is, limited cost business and how to check if this applies, how to keep VAT records and how to fill in your VAT return.

Basis periods

This webinar will focus on basis periods, a subject that’s prominent around the self-assessment peak.  In particular it will look at the different rules that apply to commencement years, the effect on a basis period when there is a change of accounting date and overlapping periods.  The webinar will also look at some pointers when dealing with a change from sole trader to partnership and vice versa.

Payrolling – tax employees benefits through payroll

Payrolling is designed to make it easier for employees to see that they're paying the right amount of tax and easier for your employer clients as they won’t need to send in P11Ds for payrolled benefits.  This session will demonstrate how registering for payrolling works and what happens once somebody has registered, using examples.

Making Tax Digital (MTD) for business and VAT

From April 2019, VAT registered entities with a taxable turnover above the VAT registration threshold must keep VAT records digitally and file their VAT returns using MTD compatible software.  This webinar will bring you the latest news on MTD including information on creating and using your new agent services account, which is required to access new HMRC online services.
