Updated advise on the general anti-abuse rule features this week.

  • A paper setting out the Government’s response to the Treasury Sub-Committee report on Disputing Tax has been published committee’s conclusions and recommendations
  • Help and support for tax agents and advisers has been updated
  • Check the updated list of VAT appeals that HMRC has lost, or partly lost, that could have implications for other businesses
  • The Chancellor has commissioned an independent review of the Disguised Remuneration Loan Charge.
  • Imports (VAT Notice 702) which sets out how imported goods are treated for VAT purposes, including how to work out import VAT and which goods are relieved from import VAT has been updated
  • Check the updated list of approved payers for non-UK resident entertainers and find out if you need to deduct withholding tax
  • Use the General Anti-Abuse Rule (GAAR) guidance and Advisory Panel opinions to help you recognise tax avoidance schemes has been updated and details of a recent GAAR advisory opinion have been published
