UK Budget 2020 – COVID-19 crisis

Mar 16, 2020

Responding to the deepening crisis, a page providing guidance to employers and businesses has been set up on GOV.UK. More information on the package of measures announced at Budget 2020 to help public services, individuals and businesses affected is also available. Note that some of these do not currently apply to Northern Ireland.

A dedicated helpline has also been set up to help businesses and self-employed individuals in financial distress and with outstanding tax liabilities receive support with their tax affairs.

Through this, businesses may be able to agree a bespoke Time to Pay arrangement. If you are concerned about being able to pay your tax due to COVID-19, call HMRC’s dedicated helpline on 0800 0159 559. HMRC has stated that it will also waive late payment penalties and interest where a business experiences administrative difficulty contacting HMRC or paying taxes due to COVID-19.
