Last week we told you that HMRC has stopped the payment of some research and development (“R&D”) tax credit payments to allow it to investigate what has been referred to as irregular claims. HMRC has provided a further update below.
“Last week we contacted you to notify that we have paused some Research & Development Tax Credit (RDTC) payments while we investigate irregular claims.
This message is to keep you updated and confirm that we are continuing our investigations into these irregular claims. We are also experiencing a high volume of claims which means delays to our usual processing times are ongoing. Our previous advice still applies to agents:
- R&D claimants should not contact the R&D helpline/mailbox to chase their claims. Instead, agents should check the company’s online account to check the status of their claim.
- To help agents process their R&D payment quickly, they should complete all entries on the R&D section of their Corporation Tax return (CT600 form).
As usual, we will continue to issue the regular Monday agent email (from the R&D mailbox) to update claimants on processing times. We appreciate agents’ patience while we handle these claims.
We ask your members not to contact any HMRC official about a claim. We will contact you again once we have more information to share with you and your members.”
