Applications invited to become a Pobal Board Member Dr. Deiric Ó Broin, Chairperson Pobal, is pleased to announce that the Minister for Rural and Community Development has invited expressions of interest from members of the public for appointment to the Board of Pobal.


Pobal’s Role Pobal administers and manages Government and EU funding to address disadvantage and support social inclusion. Our work supports communities and local agencies towards achieving social inclusion and development. We work in the areas of social inclusion, early learning and care, local and community development, peace and reconciliation, equality, labour market supports, and education and training.

A highly qualified Board, with directors drawn from a broad range of sectors and with specific areas of expertise, is critical. The Board The Board of Pobal is appointed by Government and give their time and expertise on a voluntary basis. Pobal is a not-for-profit company, a registered charity and is subject to the requirements of the Code of Practice for the Governance of State Bodies. Its work is guided by a strategic plan and annual business plans that reflect the requirements of the specific years in question.

Directors are appointed for an initial four year term.

Who Should apply?
Specific experience to be evidenced in the expression of interest are as follows:
• Professional experience in community development in a rural or urban context;
• Experience at an appropriately senior level role which directs and contributes to organisational and strategic development;
• A substantive knowledge and understanding of the community and voluntary sector; and
• Experience which would demonstrate implementation of successful change management initiatives.
