Budget date set for March

The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sajid Javid, has confirmed that the next Budget will be held on Wednesday 11 March 2020. This is substantially later than Budgets in recent years which were held in October and November respectively.

Although the Finance Bill is expected to be published the following week, the likelihood is that this will not be enacted in legislation until June or July 2020. This means that if the Government proceeds with its stated intention of not reducing the rate of corporation tax from 19 per cent to 17 per cent, the change will effectively be retrospective as the 17 per cent has already been enacted as part of Finance Act 2016.

We’ll be covering the next Budget for our members, as usual.
