Revenue has published an eBrief which covers the tax treatment of compensation payments made under the Equitable Life Payment Scheme – a scheme set up by the UK Government to compensate policyholders who incurred “relative losses” as a consequence of regulatory failure in the UK. Income tax or capital gains tax treatment may apply depending on the type of compensation payment received.
