Revenue’s Automated Import System

If you import goods into Ireland from Great Britain, you will need to use Revenue’s new customs declarations system, the Automated Import System (AIS). Revenue implemented this new import system in November 2020 to comply with the provisions of the Union Customs Code (UCC).

It ensures that businesses can import goods legally from outside the EU (including GB) using the most efficient process possible.

This system replaces the existing Automated Entry Processing (AEP) system for imports. The AIS and AEP will run in parallel until 31 March 2021 to allow remaining customs agents and businesses some additional time to complete the transition to the new system.

One of the major changes under the AIS is the change in the format of customs import declarations. The import Single Administrative Document (SAD) has been replaced by new AIS declaration types.
