VAT Compensation Scheme closing date

Revenue issued a reminder that the closing date for submission of eligible 2020 VAT claims for the VAT Compensation Scheme is 30 June 2021. It is not possible for claims to be submitted after this date.

The Charities VAT Compensation Scheme aims to reduce the VAT burden on charities and to partially compensate them for VAT paid in the day to day running of their organisations. Revenue is accepting claims under this scheme in respect of eligible VAT paid in 2020 until 30 June 2021.

Claimants should familiarise themselves with the qualifying criteria for the scheme before submitting a claim. Last year the main error in claims related to the inclusion of public funding in the amounts represented in the claim as qualifying income. The scheme only entitles charities for refunds of VAT paid having regard to their level of non-public funding.
