77,000 PUP recipients moved to an EWSS employment in June

The latest COVID-19 Support Schemes statistics include details on the previous status of employees whose employment was supported by the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme (EWSS) in June. Of the 148,400 people who moved from the Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) in May, 77,000 of those moved to an employment supported by the EWSS in June. Some 1,900 employers started or restarted using the EWSS to support staff employment in June.

Table 3 within the preliminary statistics as at 15 July shows that just over 15 percent of employees on the payroll in June were in an employment supported by the EWSS. The May status of the 344,000 June EWSS employees was:

There was an increase of 41,200 employments being supported by the EWSS in June, when compared with May. Most of this increase is represented by those coming off the PUP to take up an employment supported by the EWSS.

As at 15 July 2021, €3.9 billion EWSS payments have been made. There were 23,600 employers with 259,000 employees whose employments were supported by the EWSS in July to date.

As at 15 July 2021, total Covid Restriction Support Scheme (CRSS) payments amount to €655 million. From 5 July onwards, of the 1,800 premises for whom the CRSS was claimed, 240 claimed for their restart week payment.
