Your Vision, Our Future – Commission on Taxation and Welfare launches public consultation
The Commission on Taxation and Welfare launched its public consultation, Your Vision, our Future on Wednesday, 20 October. The Commission is seeking opinions on various elements of the taxation and welfare systems, in particular views on how public services are funded into the future. The consultation runs until 7 January 2022.
The Commission has been tasked by the Government to “review how best the taxation and welfare system can support economic activity and income redistribution, whilst promoting increased employment and prosperity in a resilient, inclusive and sustainable way and ensuring that there are sufficient resources available to meet the costs of public services and supports in the medium and longer term.” The specific terms of reference for the Commission can be found at gov.ie/cotw.
The Commissions aim is to “elicit broad perspectives about the way in which Ireland’s tax and welfare systems should be structured to better position the country to respond to developments over the next few decades and address any perceived short-comings in the systems as they operate today.”
Chartered Accountants Ireland, under the auspices of the CCAB-I, will be responding to the consultation. Members who wish to contribute to the submission can email the tax@charteredaccountants.ie.
The consultation document can be accessed through gov.ie, and further information is available on https://cotw.citizenspace.com/.
