At a recent TALC meeting, Revenue confirmed that it received 144 requests from accountants and tax agents seeking additional time to file 4,700 income tax returns for 2020 under the exceptional circumstance facility as communicated by Tax News. The relevant Revenue division has replied to requests for an extension and a date has been agreed with Revenue for submission of tax returns under this arrangement. Revenue will review the list of clients provided and will manually amend assessments to remove surcharges after the agreed extended deadline has passed. As previously communicated in Tax News it is advisable to discuss the arrangement with clients in case automated assessments issue showing a surcharge. Tax clearance will not be impacted by the exceptional circumstance facility.
