Now in their 40th year, the awards were presented at a gala evening event in Dublin’s Shelbourne Hotel, on November 24, and attended by 290 business professionals.

Oliver Holt, Chairman, Chartered Accountants Ireland - Leinster Society, said that the awards provided welcome encouragement to communicate financial reporting information with clarity and brevity.

“The Published Accounts Awards continue to play an important role showcasing the best-in-class reporting for others to follow,” he said.

A total of 25 public and private companies, including not-for-profit organisations, competed as finalists across eleven award categories for recognition in achieving excellence in financial reporting.

Among the category winners were CRH which topped the large quoted company on the Main Securities Market category; Dalata Hotel Group plc, which took the award for small/medium quoted companies, and DCC plc, which won the ‘Irish companies listed on a foreign market’ accolade for the third consecutive year since the category was introduced. Total Produce plc claimed first place in the ESM company category.

ESB built on its impressive track record, winning the ‘statutory unquoted large entities’ award for the seventh consecutive year. In the not-for-profit category, Aidlink and Clúid Housing Association emerged victorious.

In the final three awards on the night, CRH plc took the ‘social responsibility reporting award; Kingspan Group plc scooped the ‘branding, communication and marketing’ accolade for the presentation and design of its financial accounts annual report; and UDG Healthcare plc won the ‘best digital reporting’ award, sponsored by Investis which was presented for this first time this year.

The awards, Holt said, play a key role recognising those who have gone above and beyond the need to meet their obligations, to produce an annual report that is fair, balanced and understandable. On behalf of the judging panel and the Leinster Society, he congratulated all the finalists and winners on their achievements. He particularly praised DCC plc for being selected overall winner.

Orla O’Gorman, Head of Equity at the Irish Stock Exchange, which sponsors the Published Accounts Awards, said that annual reports are an important mechanism for companies to communicate their corporate strategy and business performance to investors and stakeholders.

“Digital has become the primary channel for the consumption of this corporate information and I am delighted that excellence in this area has been recognised this year with the introduction of the ‘best digital reporting’ award,” she said.

On behalf of the Irish Stock Exchange, she congratulated all the 2017 finalists and category winners, for excelling in the communication and presentation of financial information.
