Our approach to education

Our approach to education is unique, we don’t outsource the education to third party colleges. Everything is provided for you in-house – lecturers, courses, exams, and support. We won’t ask you to select an education provider. We have the best lecturers across the Island of Ireland, experts in their field, who deliver the best syllabus to the highest standards.

Our students have a top class educational experience, better interaction with the lecturers and the professional body, more support on the ground, and most importantly, they enjoy the highest pass rates of all the main accountancy bodies in Ireland.

Education & COVID-19

For several years leading up to the outbreak of the pandemic, the Institute has followed a ‘blended learning’ education model, being a mix of face-to-face and online teaching and lectures. This model has worked well for students, with consistently high student pass rates. The world over, the education model is shifting from face-to-face to online education delivery, as immersive, responsive and content-rich technologies emerge to provide an excellent, flexible education experience.

With the arrival of COVID-19, all education bodies have had to review their use of in-person lectures, and Chartered Accountants Ireland has been no different. In March 2020, Chartered Accountants Ireland moved quickly to deliver all remaining lectures exclusively online. But that’s not all. True to the Institute’s commitment to excellence in professional education, best practice in online education was deployed in support of our students. Additional features included webinars, podcasts, digital exam preparation, knowledge checks, virtual classrooms, ‘Ask Me Anything’ sessions, polling tools and student surveys.

Chartered Accountants Ireland will be adopting the very best education experience for its students for 2020/21 while complying with all government guidelines on social distancing and congregation. The Institute is currently finalising plans around education delivery for September 2020, and we anticipate that we will be in a position to make a definitive announcement in July 2020.

Study locations and distance learning

Chartered Accountancy classes are available around the country. We have purpose built student centres in Dublin and Belfast, and around the rest of Ireland we only use facilities that are of the highest standard.

Our Distance Learning programme offers a blended approach, combining online tutorials and face-to-face workshops. A key element to our Distance Programme is ensuring you have regular contact with the lecturers, so with that in mind we’ll ask you to attend regular classroom-based workshops throughout the year. These currently take place in Dublin, Belfast, and Galway.

Course breakdown

There are three academic levels in the Chartered Accountancy programme. Each of these can be completed in a single year, meaning you can be finished your education in just three years. With our Flexible Route, you can split CAP1 and CAP2 over more than one year if you’d prefer, depending on your own requirements.

CAP1 is the first academic level of the education programme it provides the essential foundation knowledge.

FAE is designed to integrate the knowledge, skills and values derived from earlier studies and the work environment.

New education offering

Chartered Accountants Ireland has launched a new education programme designed to strengthen the Chartered Accountant premium brand in the market and attract greater numbers of talented graduates to the profession. This represents the largest change to our education offering in over ten years.

Updates include new electives at FAE level, more flexibility around subjects and exams, distance and online learning options and rationalisation of the syllabus content.

Study options

Traditional classroom learning

This is the traditional study option where students attend lectures on a weekly basis.

Blended distance learning

This study option is a combination of online learning and workshop based attendance.

Fees and payments options

Fees are payable either upfront for the academic level, or using our payment plan. You only have to pay for what you are doing each year, so if you are only taking two subjects, you only have to pay for two subjects.

Our payment plan allows you to pay your fee in three interest-free installments. To avail of this you can opt for this plan when you enrol onto the programme.
