Practising Certificates
The Professional Standards Department have a dedicated webpage, setting out the requirements for Practising Certificates. To establish whether you need a Practising Certificate, please refer to Chapter 5 of the Public Practice Regulations (page 35 onwards) and the Guidance on Public Practice Regulations (part B.5 and schedule C.1).

What other authorisations may be needed?
Specific permission or authorisation may be required if your practice intends to carry out such services as audit or investment business.
Professional Indemnity Insurance (PII)
PII requirements are set out the Professional Standards Department’s PII webpage. The level of cover and other requirements are set out in the Public Practice Regulations (chapter 6) and the Guidance on Public Practice Regulations (Part B.6 and C.4).

Special discounted rate

Attending a Going into Practice Day course is a condition of obtaining a Practising Certificate. The 2025 dates for the online Going into Practice Day are Friday 28 March and Friday 26 September 2025.
