I'm an ATI member or student
Every year, many Accounting Technicians Ireland (ATI) members and students decide to continue their studies in order to advance their careers, and their number one choice is Chartered Accountants Ireland. There are two options explained below; the Apprenticeship route, or the Traditional route. Chartered Accountants Ireland and Accounting Technicians Ireland are partner organisations, meaning we recognise the skills gained while studying to become an Accounting Technician, and offer a unique route to our programme with ATI graduates in mind.
Apprenticeship route
This route is most popular with school leavers. It's a work-based programme which means you earn while you learn. Over 2 years, you work 4 days a week with an approved ATI employer, and attend college 1 day a week. You then transition into the Chartered Accountants Ireland programme and potentially benefit from full CAP1 exemptions (subject to results).
The Apprenticeship route is popular with school leavers who wish to begin working staright away while gaining a professional qualification or who are certain that they want to be Chartered Accountants and want to qualify as quickly as possible.
Traditional route
The ATI programme can be completed on a part time basis, you work full time and undertake the ATI study in the evenings. The traditional route will students who are already working but would like to return to study or change careers. offers two options to begin your ACA qualification:
- Gain a merit grade in the ATI first year exams (and meet certain Leaving Cert/GCSE/ A Level requirements). You can then move on to studying our first year exams, CAP1.
- Study with ATI for two years to gain the Accounting Technician qualification before beginning the ACA qualification with CAP1 exemptions.
