The Australian Ireland Fund

• The Ireland Fund is a non-political and non-sectarian global network which is now active in twelve countries around the world including the United States, Great Britain, Canada, France, Germany, China, Japan, New Zealand, Monaco, Singapore, Ireland and of course Australia. The organisation was set up by Sir Anthony O’Reilly in the United States in 1976 and with their supporters worldwide, The Ireland Fund  have raised over US$430 million for projects of Peace and Reconciliation, Community Development and Integrated Education in Ireland.
• Since its inception, the Australian Ireland Fund has donated close to $7 million dollars to projects of Peace and Reconciliation, Integrated Education and Community Development in Ireland and Australia. In 2009 the Young Leader Network was established; it is a vital and vibrant part of the work of The Australian Ireland Fund.
• Ireland is experiencing the most challenging economic period in decades; we are all familiar with the hurdles to be overcome. While that recovery takes place, those people on the margins of society will be the most vulnerable. The not-for-profit sector in Ireland is playing an increasingly important role in maintaining Ireland’s social fabric; while the demand for services grows the resources available are already greatly diminished.  In 2013, the Australian Ireland Fund is endeavoring to play its part by supporting Barnardos Loughlinstown and Darndale Belcamp as their two flagship projects.

ConnectIreland

• ConnectIreland is Ireland's global incentivised referral programme.
• ConnectIreland was appointed by IDA Ireland, the Government agency responsible for inward investment to deliver the Succeed in Ireland initiative which is part of the Government's Action Plan for Jobs.
• ConnectIreland is looking to reach out to SMEs in Australia that are ready to expand into internationally.
• Through ConnectIreland, the Irish Government is willing to financially reward any individual (the 'Connector') who makes an introduction to a company providing that company sets up operations in Ireland and jobs are created. The aim is to harness the power of the global Irish network to drive inward investment to Ireland and create jobs that may have been created elsewhere.
• The average SME creates 30 jobs and the reward payable to the Connector in this instance will be €45,000 ($55,000).
• This is a fantastic initiative as it provides the diaspora the chance to 'give something back' to Ireland when it needs it most.
