Public Sector Tax event

Kimberley Rowan, Tax Manager at Chartered Accountants Ireland, Sandra Meeneghan, HSE, and Maura Conneely, Revenue, spoke to accountants working in the public sector on topical tax issues and general tax developments at the public sector tax event held at Chartered Accountants House yesterday.  

Among the topical tax issues encountered by accountants in the public sector covered by the speakers included;

  • The misclassification of individuals as contractors
  • The tax treatment of payment of employee expenses
  • Emergency on call payments
  • VAT on buying goods and services
  • Operation of PSWT and RCT and managing compliance

Attendees also saw how to navigate the Revenue website and locate common Revenue guidance relevant to the public sector and also heard about general tax developments such as the PAYE modernisation programme, the current review of the tax appeals process and what tax measures we can expect to see in Budget 2018.

The next public sector event will focus on governance and will be held late November; details of this event will be made available on our website in the coming weeks.
