The Institute has written to Minister for the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Leo Varadkar, to highlight the extreme pressures facing some businesses and accountancy firms in meeting the CRO deadline on 25 November. Chartered Accountants Ireland calls on the Government to put a facility in place on a case by case basis for businesses and accountants to seek to make an arrangement to file Annual Returns after the deadline and not incur penalties and the loss of audit exemption in cases where the business is enduring COVID-19 disruption. The Revenue Commissioners introduced a facility in recognition of the negative impact of COVID-19 on some taxpayers and accountants due to file tax returns this month so it is fitting that a similar facility is put in place by the CRO for the upcoming November deadline. The Institute will update members of Minister Varadkar’s response.
