COVID-19 – update on UK supports

Apr 06, 2020

HMRC and the UK Government continue to update us on the various supports available for businesses and employers during the pandemic with revised arrangements also now in place for the business interruption loan scheme which is operation with lenders from today 6th April. The UK government has set up a dedicated support page where businesses can find support, advice and information to help with the impact of the Coronavirus. We also continue to engage with HMRC on behalf of our members in respect of these and other matters.

Revised guidance has now been published in respect of the job retention scheme:-

In a letter to the Loan Charge All Party Parliamentary Group, HMRC has advised that special arrangements are being introduced for taxpayers affected by the loan charge rules relating to disguised remuneration tax avoidance schemes.

HMRC has also confirmed that employees forced to work from home due to measures to control the coronavirus pandemic are covered by home-working expenses rules.

An extract with update links from HMRC’s latest coronavirus stakeholder digest is also outlined below:

“HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has been issuing a regular Stakeholder Digest outlining the various packages of support and other easements available to help people during the coronavirus outbreak. We want everyone to know about what is available, so please do share these messages with your clients, customers or members. The government has set up a dedicated support page where businesses can find the right support, advice and information to help with the impact of coronavirus.
