As part of the November 2021 Tax and Maintenance Day announcements, the Government is examining how HMRC can modernise its collection of tax debts via a call for evidence which closes on 22 February 2022.
Page 13 of this call for evidence looks at the role of agents and how they can encourage their clients to make payments on time. The Institute would like your views on this particular aspect as we do not view it as appropriate or necessary for agents to be involved in collection of tax debt. Please contact leontia.doran@charteredaccountants.ie by Monday 14 February with your feedback.
The Institute will also be seeking your feedback in respect of the Call for evidence: Income Tax Self-Assessment registration for the self-employed and landlords once the self-assessment filing easement ends as we recognise our members are currently very busy. Also recognising this, HMRC has extended the deadline to respond to this call for evidence from 22 February 2022 to 22 March 2022.
