The Tax Appeals Commission (“TAC”) recently published its 2021 Annual Report. In a statement, the Chairperson, Marie-Claire Maney, noted that in 2021 the TAC closed the highest number of appeals since its formation; 1,793 appeals valued at €3.146 billion. It also reduced the quantum under appeal from €4.5 billion to €1.65 billion and reduced the number of appeals on hand to 2,703, a reduction of 10 percent. The TAC issued determinations affecting appeals to a value of €443 million.
The Chairperson also extended appreciation to the Chair of the CCAB-I's Tax Committee, Mr Peter Vale, noting the positive engagement he and other stakeholders have had with the TAC. Concluding her statement, Ms Maney said she looked forward to 2022 “building on the positive foundation of 2021”.
