Student Recruitment: bringing the brightest and best into your profession

Nov 12, 2019

This morning, Chartered Accountants House in Dublin is welcoming 150 second-level pupils as part of our schools outreach programme - part of the Institute's wider strategy to recruit the brightest and best from across Irish society into chartered accountancy.

As your members' body, we are making students aware of Chartered Accountancy as an attractive and exciting career choice. It's all part of the #ValueOfMembership.

Demystifying accountancy at Second Level

In October we launched our virtual Boot Camp: over 50 teachers will be leading their Transition Year pupils through the basics of double-entry bookkeeping using our online learning platform.

We have a busy schedule of school visits all year round, speaking to Senior Cycle and A-Level pupils about the routes into accountancy and the doors that can be opened by our qualification - often accompanied by recent past pupils who can talk about the experience of becoming a chartered accountant. Schools also come to us at our 'open days' around the country, where we bring together TY, 5th and 6th years for interactive case study sessions and careers presentations. Over the next 10 days, we'll host over 600 students at our open days in Sligo, Cork and Dublin.

Third Level Recruitment

Chartered Accountants Ireland actively participates in third-level careers fairs at all of Ireland's universities and institutes of technology. Importantly, we are bringing a diversity of perspectives into the profession by reaching out to students from all academic backgrounds, not only those pursuing degrees in business or accounting. This summer we conducted an intensive promotional campaign for the Flexible route in our training programme, which resulted in our biggest-ever class of Flexible students commencing training in October.

The new Chartered Connect hub for prospective trainees brings together all of the information a third-level student needs to apply for the Chartered Accountants Ireland training programme, offering CV masterclasses, interview tips, student profiles and more.

We help prospective students find a training contract through our Training Vacancies directory. Firms offering posts to trainee accountants are listed across all 32 counties, ensuring students can find all of the opportunities available to them. Prospective students have a chance to meet those employers in person at our in-house Employer Showcases held at Chartered Accountants House in Dublin and in Belfast ahead of the application period.
