The organisation:

Smyly Trust Services is a voluntary organisation which provides residential childcare in Dublin. Our two centres Glensilva and Racefield House offer medium to long term care for boys and girls up to the age of 18 years. We also provide an aftercare service for young people leaving residential and foster care. We are registered and inspected by the Health Information and Quality Authority and are funded and monitored by Tusla.
Our mission is the provision of residential care for children and young people whose needs have not been met by their families. We undertake this by providing a safe and nurturing environment within which residents can grow, develop and be helped to redress trauma through individual relationships and the group living experience.

General board duties
Comply with Smyly Trust Service’s governing document
Ensuring the organisation is complying with its charitable purpose
Acting in the best interest of the charity
Act with reasonable care and skill
Manage the assets of the charity

Role and responsibilities
Smyly Trust Services are seeking an individual with proven knowledge in financial management or accountancy.
The candidate must be a qualified accountant.
It is expected that the individual will have oversight of compliance and risk management in line with usual board responsibilities. In addition, the role will be to evaluate and monitor the adequacy of financial controls and procedures and ensure the organisation is compliant with best practice principles.
The candidate will sit on the main board as well as the audit & finance committee.

Board meetings:
There are generally 8 board meetings and approximately 3 sub-committee meetings a year. Meetings are held in the units or via videoconference.
