We are an all-island of Ireland organisation. We currently want to hire a Technical Manager on the Professional Accountancy team primarily to support our Corporate Reporting and Audit & Assurance work, including sustainability reporting and assurance. We can provide you with the opportunity to:
- Work closely with senior members of the profession in practice and industry, experts in the areas of financial reporting, audit and assurance, sustainability reporting, AML, sanctions and company law;
- Liaise with Government departments, State agencies and international standard setters;
- Enhance your technical knowledge working with experts in financial reporting, auditing and company law;
- Enhance your communication skills;
- Draft reports and articles for publication on the Institute website, in Accountancy Ireland and for external parties
- Develop and provide guidance to Chartered Accountants Ireland members both North and South; and
- Be part of a team which creates key material guidance and content for the accountancy profession in Ireland.

Key responsibilities
The Advocacy and Voice Department is responsible for the public policy agenda of Chartered Accountants Ireland. We work with expert colleagues drawn from practice and industry, developing and advocating policy on financial reporting, audit and assurance, tax, ethics and governance and business law. The department currently numbers 20 professionals.
The technical team within this department is responsible for a broad technical policy agenda of relevance to the Institute and its membership. This team works with expert volunteers drawn from practice and industry. We coordinate policy approaches and develop guidance for members. The technical team deals with financial reporting, insolvency, audit and assurance, company law, sustainability reporting and a number of associated areas including company secretarial matters, sanctions and anti-money laundering for both the British and Irish jurisdictions. The role includes undertaking project work in areas of focus for the team and in particular in the area of sustainability reporting.
This exciting and varied work includes:
- Supporting the Sustainability Reporting working group and assisting with consultations;
- Addressing public consultations from international accounting, auditing and ethics standard setters, including the FRC, the IASB, EFRAG, IAASA and the IAASB;
- Liaising with various Irish and UK Government Departments on company law and other business legislation impacting on the work of accountants;
- Liaising with European organisations such as Accountancy Europe and EFRAG, attending their events and participating in their working groups
- Dealing with various regulatory and other state agencies such as the Central Bank of Ireland, IAASA, ODCE, CEA, CRO, FCA and the UK Companies Office on regulatory and other matters relevant to the profession and business;
- Working on projects of common interest with other Professional Accountancy Organisations in Ireland and abroad;
- Speaking at Institute sponsored events such as CPD courses and conferences; and
- Helping colleagues in other departments within the Institute on technical matters.
The candidate
- At least five years’ experience in practice in the area of assurance;
- A strong interest in technical matters;
- A self-starter with plenty of initiative and an ability to work both on your own and as part of a team;
- A good understanding of the legal framework and technical requirements faced by accountants, and auditors;
- Experience or an interest in sustainability reporting would be desirable;
- A high focus on quality;
- Strong written and oral communication, presentation and influencing skills; and
- Strong project management skills and the drive and determination to see projects through to a conclusion.
The role is full time and based in our Dublin office but may involve some travel within Ireland, north and south, to the UK and occasionally to other European countries. Travel outside of Ireland would not be excessive, generally two to three times a year.
