2023 Chartered Star

We are delighted to reveal our 2023 Chartered Star winner, Peter Gillen, Manager with the Sustainability Advisory Team, Grant Thornton.

A graduate of Trinity College, Peter began his career training with PwC in their Risk Assurance department before his passion for sustainability led him to joining the Sustainability team in Grant Thornton. As part of his role supporting clients navigate their sustainability journeys, Peter has worked closely with the EU in drafting the European sustainability reporting standards for a number of key industries and has facilitated workshops on the Textiles sector standard to over 135 stakeholder organisations reporting companies, NGOs, and industry groups. Peter is involved with several initiatives which help further the SDGs including Chair of the Young Professionals Committee and Mentor for the Trinity Alumni Mentoring Programme and has been a vocal advocate and ambassador for the profession for many years.

Peter will now go on to attend the One Young World Summit, representing Chartered Accountants Ireland and Chartered Accountants Worldwide in Belfast this October.

It was an incredibly tough final decision with our five shortlisted finalists demonstrating the incredible work being done in this space in our Chartered community.The competition had many high calibre entries from a diverse base of members and students from across the island, all at different stages in their Chartered journey and all doing varied and amazing work in support of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Catherine Devine

Corporate Finance Manager, HCA Chartered Accountants
Having begun her Chartered journey through an apprenticeship with ATI, Catherine has remained an advocate for quality education and passionate about youth leadership and community development. Working as a mentor with Young Enterprise NI and as committee member with Young Women in Business NI Network, Catherine is involved in empowering groups with finance education and networks to prepare them for their own careers, both now and in the future.

Evan O'Donnell

Assurance Associate, PwC
Having developed his interest in social entrepreneurship at school, Evan continues to balance a wide variety of volunteer roles and community initiatives, all pivoted towards the pursuit of the UN SDGs, with his chartered accountancy studies. Evan is a passionate advocate and ambassador for his chartered peers through his work as CASSI Vice-Chair and as the committee charity lead, but also for the next generation engaging in youth leadership initiatives.

Gerard Wynne

Investment Executive, Small Foundation
While working and travel across Australia, Asia and South America, Gerard developed his interest and passion for innovative finance and social entrepreneurship which has guided his career ever since. Working with the Small Foundation, Gerard's focus is 'impact investing' and he is directly involved with supporting their partners in maximising their own impact on rural poverty and developing communities across Africa through a variety of methods.

Jack Lee

Head of ESG Product and Product Development Director, MUFG Investor Services
Having shaped his career around the UN SDGs and ESG more broadly, Jack is a firm believer in the key role Chartered Accountants play in ensuring sustainability is central to organisations, particularly in terms of ESG reporting, and is passionate about inspiring the next generation to develop the skillset required to do this successfully. Outside of his day job, he is a dedicated volunteer working with various non-profits, environmental steering groups and forums.
