In this week’s EU Exit Bulletin, we bring you the latest guidance updates and publications relevant to EU exit and a reminder email from HMRC on moving from CHIEF to the Customs Declarations Service (“CDS”) for all imports of goods into the UK from 1 September 2022. We also update you on recent developments in relation to the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill.
The reminder email advises that by 30 September 2022, businesses must set up a new Direct Debit Instruction for the CDS if it uses a duty deferment account. If this is not done, the business will not be able to use its duty deferment account and will need to make immediate payments each time it makes an import declaration.
Northern Ireland Protocol Bill update
Monday 15 August 2022 was the deadline for the UK to respond to the EU reasoned opinion regarding the unfrozen infringement proceedings (dating from March 2021) and the letter of formal notice regarding the most recent infringement proceedings (from 15 June 2022) in respect of the Protocol on Ireland / Northern Ireland.
Last week, the UK was granted more time to respond. The new deadline is 15 September 2022 when the new UK Prime Minister will be in situ.
