The FAE course programme challenges students to
develop professional skills across a broad spectrum of business areas, including financial
reporting, strategic management and leadership, data analytics and emerging
technologies, and risk management and sustainability.
Problem Solving and the FAE provides a framework to enable students to develop their
problem-solving skills across several business areas. It is also intended to
provide students with the capacity to integrate that knowledge, thus acquiring
the skillset necessary for today’s qualifying Chartered Accountant.

The Author
Derry Cotter is a
Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland. At University College Cork, where he
lectured in accounting for more than 30 years, he was a recipient of the
President’s Excellence in Teaching award. He is extensively involved in the
Chartered Accountants Ireland Student Education Programme, and has taught on the
Final Admitting Examination in Belfast, Cork, Dublin, Galway, Kilkenny and
Waterford. Derry, who trained as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst & Young,
has published works in the areas of finance and financial reporting.He has
written a number of stage plays, with Lees Side Story being
performed in the Cork Opera House in 2019. He is also the author of Cases and Solutions in International Financial Reporting Standards.
