Book

Anne Marie Ward’s textbook is the seminal text for the study of finance for both professional and academic courses. With particular relevance to students in Ireland and the UK, but also internationally, the author clearly and concisely presents the theory behind finance, providing practical worked examples to illustrate this theory and integrating real-world examples and academic research to provide a deeper understanding of the subject.

Finance: Theory and Practice:

  • explains the main factors that can impact on financial decision-making, particularly the impact of the current economic environment;
  • explores the various theories for influencing or improving financial decision-making;
  • considers current research findings and interprets these in light of the theory;
  • uses simple, worked examples to review and explain the theory being considered;
  • uses real-world examples to illustrate the practical application of finance decision-making;
  • provides numerous examination-standard questions at the end of each chapter, with solutions provided or available to lecturers.
This new edition:
  • is updated to reflect recent economic circumstances as well as legal and regulatory changes;
  • provides more current real-world examples to bring the theory to life;
  • introduces new chapters on ratio analysis, corporate failure and working capital;
  • considers contemporary financing options, such as peer-to-peer lending and fintech solutions;
  • discusses sustainability and ESG issues in the context of finance decision-making.
